– The sixth: Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “A strong believer is better and dearer to Allah than a weak believer, though there is good in each. Be keen on what benefits you, seek help from Allah, and never lose heart. If something befalls you, do not say, ‘If only I had done such-and-such, it would have been such-and-such,’ but say instead, ‘Allah decreed it, and whatever He wills, He does,’ for the phrase ‘if only’ opens the door to Satan’s work.” Recorded by Muslim.
– The seventh: From the same Companion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The Fire is veiled by desires, and Paradise is veiled by hardships.” Agreed upon. In another narration Muslim records the wording “ḥuffat” in place of “ḥujibat,” which carries the same meaning: a barrier lies between a person and it, and when he crosses that barrier he will enter.
– The eighth: Abu ʿAbd-Allah Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, “I prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) one night. He began with Sūrah al-Baqarah, and I thought he would bow at verse one hundred, but he continued. I said to myself, ‘He will finish it in a single rakʿah,’ yet he went on. I thought he would bow when he completed it, but he then opened Sūrah al-Nisāʾ and recited it, and after that Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, reciting in measured tones (1). Whenever he came across a verse containing glorification he glorified, when he met a verse of request he asked, and when he passed a verse of seeking refuge he sought refuge. Then he bowed, repeating, ‘Subḥāna Rabbī al-ʿAẓīm’ (Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent); his bowing lasted about as long as his standing. He then said, ‘Samiʿa-Allāhu liman ḥamidah, Rabbana laka al-ḥamd’ (Allah hears those who praise Him; our Lord, to You belongs praise), and he stood for a long time, nearly as long as his bowing. Next he prostrated, saying, ‘Subḥāna Rabbī al-Aʿlā’ (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High); his prostration was nearly as long as his standing.” Recorded by Muslim.
– The ninth: Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “I prayed one night with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he lengthened the standing so greatly that I considered doing something improper!” He was asked, “What did you intend?” He answered, “I thought of sitting down and leaving him to pray alone.” Agreed upon.
– The tenth: Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said, “The deceased is followed by…”
