1875 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at a banquet. The foreleg was presented to him—he liked that cut—so he took a bite from it (1) and then said:
‘I will be the leader of all people on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why that is? Allah will gather the first and the last upon a single plain; those who look on will be able to see them, the caller will cause them all to hear, and the sun will draw so near to them that the people will suffer anguish and distress beyond what they can bear or endure. They will say, “Do you not see the state you are in and what has come upon you? Will you not look for someone to intercede for you with your Lord?”
Some of them will say to the others, “Your father Adam!” So they will go to him and say, “O Adam, you are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His own Hand, breathed into you of His Spirit, commanded the angels and they prostrated to you, and He settled you in Paradise. Will you not intercede for us with your Lord? Do you not see what we are in and what has overtaken us?”
He will reply, “My Lord is angry today with an anger the like of which He has never had before, nor will ever have again. He forbade me the tree, yet I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else—go to Noah.”
They will go to Noah and say, “O Noah, you were the first of the messengers sent to the earth, and Allah named you a grateful servant. Do you not see what we are in, what has overtaken us? Will you not intercede for us with your Lord?” He will say, “My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, and He will never be angry like it afterward. I had one supplication, and I used it against my people. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else—go to Abraham.”
They will go to Abraham and say, “O Abraham, you are Allah’s prophet and His close friend among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord; do you not see the state we are in?” He will tell them, “My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry like it after this. I told three lies. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else—go to Moses.”
They will go to Moses and say, “O Moses, you are the messenger of Allah; Allah distinguished you above the people with His messages and His speech. Intercede for us with your Lord; do you not see the predicament we are in?” He will say, “My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, and He will never—”
