1871 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever vows to obey Allah should obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah must not disobey Him.” Reported by al-Bukhārī.

1872 – Umm Sharīk (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed her to kill house geckos, saying, “It used to blow upon Abraham’s fire.” Agreed upon.

1873 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever kills a gecko with the first strike will receive such-and-such good deeds; whoever kills it with the second strike will receive such-and-such good deeds, fewer than the first; and if he kills it with the third strike, he will receive such-and-such good deeds.”

Another wording states, “Whoever kills a gecko with the first strike will have one hundred good deeds recorded for him; with the second strike, fewer than that; and with the third strike, fewer than that.” Reported by Muslim.

The linguists say: al-wazagh are the larger kind of the spotted wall lizard (1).

1874 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “A man once declared, ‘I will certainly give charity.’ He went out with his charity and placed it in the hand of a thief. The next morning the people said, ‘Charity was given to a thief!’ He said, ‘O Allah, to You belongs all praise; I will give charity again.’ He went out with his charity and placed it in the hand of an adulteress. The next morning they said, ‘Charity was given last night to an adulteress!’ He said, ‘O Allah, to You belongs all praise for the adulteress. I will give charity again.’ He went out with his charity and placed it in the hand of a wealthy man. The next morning they said, ‘Charity was given to a rich man?’ He said, ‘O Allah, to You belongs all praise—for the thief, the adulteress, and the wealthy man!’ He was then approached (2) and told, ‘As for your charity to the thief, perhaps it will restrain him from stealing; as for the adulteress, perhaps it will keep her from fornication; and as for the wealthy man, perhaps he will take heed and spend from what Allah has given him.’ ” Reported by al-Bukhārī in these words and by Muslim with a similar meaning.
