otherwise throw him overboard. So they took him away, and he said, “O Allah, protect me from them however You will.” The boat capsized with them, they all drowned, and he came back to the king on foot. The king asked, “What became of your companions?” He replied, “Allah the Exalted disposed of them for me.”

He then said to the king, “You will never be able to kill me until you do what I command you to do.”
The king asked, “And what is that?”
He said, “Gather the people on an open plain, tie me to the trunk of a tree (1), then take an arrow from my quiver, place it in the middle of the bow and say, ‘In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy,’ and shoot me. If you do that, you will kill me.”

So the king gathered the people on a single plain, tied him to a tree-trunk, took an arrow from his quiver, placed it in the middle of the bow, and said, “In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy.” He then shot him; the arrow struck him in the temple. The boy put his hand to his temple and died. The people cried out, “We believe in the Lord of the boy!”

Someone came to the king and said, “Look at what you feared! By Allah, the very thing you dreaded has happened—people have believed.”

The king ordered trenches to be dug at the entrances to the roads; the trenches were dug (2), fires were kindled in them, and he said, “Whoever does not turn back from his religion, throw him into them (3),” or it was said to him, “Plunge in yourself.” They did so until a woman came holding her infant. She shrank from casting herself in, and the child said to her, “Mother, be steadfast, for you are upon the truth.” Narrated by Muslim.

32 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet ﷺ passed by a woman who was weeping at a grave. He said, “Fear Allah and be patient.” She retorted, “Leave me alone, for you have not been afflicted with my calamity.” She had not recognized him. She was later told, “That was the Prophet ﷺ,” so she went to the door of the Prophet ﷺ and did not find anyone there
