1778 – On the authority of Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ: “When a slave absconds, none of his prayers will be accepted.” Reported by Muslim. In another narration: “He has disbelieved.”
350 – Chapter: The prohibition of interceding with respect to the prescribed punishments
Allah the Exalted says: “The adulteress and the adulterer—flog each of them a hundred lashes, and let no compassion for them deter you from applying the law of Allah, if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day.” (Surah al-Nūr, 2)
1779 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that Quraysh were greatly concerned about the case of a woman from the Makhzūm clan who had stolen. They asked, “Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on her behalf?” They said, “No one would dare except Usāmah ibn Zayd, the beloved (1) of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” So Usāmah spoke to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Are you interceding regarding one of the limits set by Allah the Exalted?” He then rose, delivered a sermon, and said, “What destroyed those before you was that when a person of status among them stole, they left him alone, but when a weak one stole, they enforced the punishment upon him. By Allah, were Fāṭimah the daughter of Muhammad ﷺ to steal, I would cut off her hand.” Agreed upon.
In another wording: “The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color and he said, ‘Are you interceding concerning one of the limits set by Allah?!’ Usāmah replied [to him], ‘Seek forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah.’ The Prophet ﷺ then ordered that the woman be brought forth, and her hand was cut off.” (2)
