Allah, the Most High, says: “Who is more unjust than one who sets out to create as I create? Let them create a single speck (1), or let them create a grain of wheat, or let them create a grain of barley.” Agreed upon.

1693 – Abū Ṭalḥah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image.” Agreed upon.

1694 – Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had arranged for Gabriel to come to him, but the angel delayed until the wait weighed heavily on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He went outside, met Gabriel, and complained to him. Gabriel replied, “We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image.” Al-Bukhārī narrated it.

The word rātha means “he delayed”; it is spelled with the letter thā’.

1695 – ʿĀʾishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had appointed an hour for Gabriel, peace be upon him, to visit him, yet when that hour came Gabriel did not arrive. She said, “The Prophet was holding a staff in his hand; he cast it aside and said, ‘Allah never breaks His promise, nor do His messengers.’ Then he turned and saw a puppy beneath his bed. He said, ‘When did this dog get in here?’ I replied, ‘By Allah, I did not know about it.’ He ordered that it be taken out, and it was removed. Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, came. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘You promised me, and I sat waiting for you, yet you did not come.’ He replied, ‘The dog that was in your house kept me from entering; indeed, we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image.’” Narrated by Muslim.

1696 – Abū al-Hayyāj Ḥayyān ibn Ḥuṣayn said: ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, may Allah be pleased with him, said to me, “Shall I not send you on the same mission on which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me? Do not leave any image without obliterating it, and do not leave any elevated grave without leveling it.” Narrated by Muslim.

(1) That is, the ant. The hadith indicates that the rationale for the prohibition is the imitation of Allah’s creation, a rationale that requires the ban to remain in force; take note.
