to its vomit and eats it.”
Another wording reads: “The one who takes back his gift is like the one who returns to his vomit.”
1620 – ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb – may Allah be pleased with him – reported: “I donated a horse in the path of Allah, but the man who received it neglected it. Later I wanted to buy it back, thinking he would sell it for a low price. I asked the Prophet ﷺ about that, and he said, ‘Do not buy it, and do not take back your charity even if he sells it to you for a single dirham; for whoever takes back his charity is like one who returns to his vomit.’” Agreed upon.
His statement “I donated a horse in the path of Allah” means: I gave it in charity to one of the fighters in jihad.
286 – Chapter: Emphasizing the prohibition of consuming an orphan’s property
Allah the Exalted says: “Indeed, those who consume the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming fire into their bellies, and they will be burned in a Blaze.” (Surah al-Nisāʾ, 4:10)
He also says: “Do not approach the property of an orphan except in a manner that is best.” (Surah al-Anʿām, 6:152)
And He says: “They ask you about orphans. Say, ‘Doing what is right for them is best; and if you intermingle with them, they are your brothers. Allah knows the corrupter from the reformer.’” (Surah al-Baqarah, 2:220)
1621 – Abū Hurayrah – may Allah be pleased with him – narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Avoid the seven destructive sins!” They asked, “Messenger of Allah, what are they?” He replied, “Associating partners with Allah, sorcery, killing a soul that Allah has made sacred except with due right, consuming usury, devouring an orphan’s property, turning one’s back on the enemy on the day of battle(1), and slandering chaste, believing, unsuspecting women.” Agreed upon.
“The destructive sins (al-mubiqāt)” means the sins that lead to perdition.
