to shun his brother for more than three days.” Agreed upon.
1576 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “The gates of Paradise are opened on Monday and Thursday, and every servant who does not associate anything with Allah is forgiven—except for a man between whom and his brother there is animosity.(1) It is said: ‘Leave these two until they reconcile! Leave these two until they reconcile!’” Reported by Muslim.
In another version he said: “People’s deeds are presented every Thursday and Monday,” and he related something similar.
270 – Chapter: The Prohibition of Envy
Envy is to wish that the blessing be removed from its possessor, whether that blessing pertains to religion or to worldly life. Allah the Exalted says: “Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them of His bounty?” (Q 4:54). The ḥadīth of Anas cited in the previous chapter also falls under this heading.
1577 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Beware of envy, for envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes firewood”—or he said, “grass.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd.(2)
