Riyad al-SalihinAl-Nawawi

“Allah has cursed whoever alters the landmarks of the land”—that is, its boundary limits—and that he said, “Allah has cursed the thief who steals even an egg,” and that he said, “Allah has cursed the one who curses his own parents,” and, “Allah has cursed the one who sacrifices to anything other than Allah,” and that he said, “Whoever introduces therein (1) an innovation, or shelters an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people,” and that he said, “O Allah, curse Riʿl, Dhakwān, and ʿUṣayyah—for they disobeyed Allah and His Messenger,” these being three Arab tribes; and that he said, “Allah has cursed the Jews who took the graves of their prophets as places of worship” (2); and that “he cursed the men who imitate women and the women who imitate men.”

All of these wordings are authenticated in the Ṣaḥīḥ collections: some appear in both al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and some in only one of them. I have mentioned them here merely in passing for the sake of brevity, and, God willing, I shall cite most of them in their proper chapters later in this book.

266 – Chapter: The prohibition of reviling a Muslim without right

Allah the Exalted says, “Those who abuse believing men and believing women without their having earned it have surely shouldered slander and a manifest sin.” ⦗al-Aḥzāb 33:58⦘

1567 – Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Reviling (3) a Muslim is outrageousness (fusūq), and fighting him is unbelief.” Agreed upon.

1568 – Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, “No man accuses another of wickedness or of unbelief without it rebounding upon him, if the accused is not …”
