1481 – ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, “Say: ‘O Allah, guide me and set me on the right course.’” In another narration: “O Allah, I ask You for guidance and sound judgment(1).” Narrated by Muslim.
1482 – Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice(2), decrepitude, and stinginess. 1483 – Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, may Allah be pleased with him, said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Teach me a supplication that I can recite in my prayer.” He replied, “Say: ‘O Allah, I have wronged my soul with abundant wrongdoing, and none forgives sins but You. So forgive me with a forgiveness from You, and have mercy on me; You alone are the All-Forgiving, the All-Merciful.’” Agreed upon.
In one narration the wording includes, “and in my house.” Another reports, “with much (kathīran) wrongdoing,” and yet another, “with great (kabīran) wrongdoing,” the first with the letter thāʾ, the second with bāʾ; it is recommended to join the two and say, “with much, great wrongdoing.”
1484 – Abū Mūsā, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate with these words: “O Allah, forgive my sins, my ignorance, my excesses in all my affairs, and whatever You know about me better than I do. O Allah, forgive my seriousness and my jest, my mistakes and my deliberate acts, for all of that is within me. O Allah, forgive what I have sent ahead and what I will delay, what I keep hidden and what I make public, and whatever You know about me better than I do. You are the One who brings forward and the One who defers, and You are capable of all things.” Agreed upon.
