and tranquillity descends upon them, and Allah makes mention of them among those who are with Him.” Narrated by Muslim.
1457 – Abū Wāqid al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAwf, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque with the people around him, three men came forward. Two of them walked toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while the third turned away. The two stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of them noticed a space in the circle, so he sat there; the other sat behind the gathering; and the third went off, turning away. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, he said, “Shall I inform you about these three? As for the first, he sought shelter with Allah, so Allah granted him shelter. As for the second, he felt shy (1), so Allah was shy of him. As for the third, he turned away, so Allah turned away from him.” Agreed upon.
1458 – Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Muʿāwiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, once came upon a circle in the mosque and asked, “What has made you sit here?” They replied, “We are sitting remembering Allah.” He said, “By Allah, is that the only reason you are sitting here?” They answered, “By Allah, that is the only reason.” He said, “I have not made you swear out of suspicion of you, and no one of my standing with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has narrated fewer hadith from him than I have. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once came upon a circle of his Companions and asked, ‘What has made you sit here?’ They said, ‘We are sitting remembering Allah and praising Him for guiding us to Islam and for the favor He has bestowed upon us.’ He said, ‘By Allah, is that the only reason you are sitting here?’ They said, ‘By Allah, it is the only reason.’ He replied, ‘I am not making you swear out of suspicion, but Gabriel has come to me and informed me that Allah is boasting of you before the angels.’” Narrated by Muslim.
248 – Chapter: Remembrance of Allah in the morning and the evening
Allah the Exalted said: “And remember your Lord within yourself, in humility and awe, without raising your voice, in the mornings and in the late afternoons, and do not be among the heedless.” (Surah al-Aʿrāf, 7:205)
