13 – The Book of Praising Allah the Exalted and Thanking Him
242 – Chapter: The Obligation of Gratitude
Allah the Exalted says: “So remember Me and I will remember you; give thanks to Me and do not be ungrateful to Me.” (al-Baqarah 2:152)
He also says: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.” (Ibrāhīm 14:7)
And He says: “And say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah.’” (al-Isrāʾ 17:111)
And He says: “The close of their call will be, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.’” (Yūnus 10:10)
1401 – Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, related that on the night the Prophet ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey, two vessels were brought to him—one containing wine and the other milk. He looked at them and chose the milk. Gabriel then said, “Praise be to Allah who guided you to the innate way (1); had you taken the wine, your community would have gone astray.” Reported by Muslim.
1402 – He also narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Every matter of consequence (2) that is not begun with ‘Praise be to Allah’ is cut off (from blessing).” A sound hadith reported by Abu Dāwūd and others.
1403 – Abu Mūsā al-Ashʿarī, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When the child of a servant dies, Allah the Exalted says to His angels, ‘Did you take the life of My servant’s child?’ They reply, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘Did you take the apple of his eye?’ They reply, ‘Yes.’ He then says, ‘What did My servant say?’
