11 – Book of Jihād
234 – Chapter: The obligation of jihād and the merit of setting out in the morning or the evening
Allah the Exalted says:
“Fight the polytheists all together just as they fight you all together, and know that Allah is with the God-fearing.” (al-Tawbah 9:36)
He also says:
“Fighting has been prescribed for you while it is hateful to you; yet it may be that you dislike something although it is good for you, and it may be that you love something although it is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know.” (al-Baqarah 2:216)
And He says:
“March forth, whether lightly armed or heavily armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the path of Allah.” (al-Tawbah 9:41)
And He says:
“Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their wealth in exchange for Paradise: they fight in the path of Allah, killing and being killed—a true promise binding upon Him in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur’an. Who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Rejoice, then, in the bargain you have made, for that is the supreme success.” (al-Tawbah 9:111)
And He says:
“Those believers who remain behind—except those who have an excuse—are not equal to those who strive in the path of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has raised those who strive with their wealth and their lives above those who stay behind by a degree. Yet to each Allah has promised the finest reward, while He has given the strivers a tremendous reward over those who stay behind: degrees from Him, and forgiveness, and mercy. Allah is ever All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (al-Nisā’ 4:95-96)
And He says:
“O you who believe, shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful punishment? Believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the path of Allah with your wealth and your lives—that is best for you, if only you knew. He will forgive you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow…” (al-Ṣaff 61:10-12)
