An “accepted” (mabroor) Hajj is one during which the pilgrim commits no sin.
– He (Abū Hurayrah) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Whoever performs Hajj and neither engages in lewd talk nor commits sin will return home as on the day his mother gave birth to him.” Agreed upon.
– He also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “One ʿumrah to the next ʿumrah wipes out whatever lies between them, and an accepted Hajj has no reward other than Paradise.” Agreed upon.
– ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I asked, “Messenger of Allah, we consider striving (jihad) the most virtuous deed—should we not then strive?” He replied, “Rather, the best jihad is an accepted Hajj.” Reported by al-Bukhārī.
– She also related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is no day on which Allah frees more servants from the Fire than the Day of ʿArafah.” Reported by Muslim.
– Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Performing ʿumrah during Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj—or a Hajj with me.” Agreed upon.
– He also narrated that a woman said, “Messenger of Allah, the obligation Allah has placed upon His servants concerning Hajj has reached my father while he is an old man who cannot remain steady on a mount. May I perform Hajj on his behalf?” He replied, “Yes.” Agreed upon.
– Laqīṭ ibn ʿĀmir (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “My father is an elderly man who is unable to perform Hajj, ʿumrah, or even to travel (1). May I perform Hajj and ʿumrah on his behalf?” He said, “Perform Hajj and ʿumrah for your father.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who graded it a sound, authentic hadith.
