fights him, let him say, “I am fasting.” By the One in whose hand is Muhammad’s soul, the odor (1) that issues from the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasing to Allah than the scent of musk. For the fasting person there are two moments of joy: when he breaks his fast he rejoices, and when he meets his Lord he rejoices over his fast.” Agreed upon; this is al-Bukhārī’s wording.
In another of al-Bukhārī’s versions it says: “He abandons his food, his drink, and his desires for My sake. Fasting is Mine and I alone will reward for it, while a single good deed is recompensed tenfold.”
Muslim narrates: “Every deed of the son of Adam is multiplied: a good deed is rewarded tenfold up to seven hundredfold. Allah, Exalted is He, says: Except for fasting, for it is Mine and I alone will reward for it; he leaves his desires and his food for My sake. The fasting person has two joys: a joy when he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. And the odor of his breath is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.”
1224 – Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever spends two kinds of property in the path of Allah will be called from the gates of Paradise: ‘O servant of Allah, this is goodness!’ Thus, whoever was among the people of prayer will be summoned from the Gate of Prayer; whoever was among the people of jihad will be summoned from the Gate of Jihad; whoever was among the people of fasting will be summoned from the Gate of al-Rayyān; and whoever was among the people of charity will be summoned from the Gate of Charity.” Abū Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “May my father and mother be ransomed for you, O Messenger of Allah! A person called from just one of these gates has no cause for concern, but will anyone be called from all of them?” He replied, “Yes, and I hope that you will be among them.” Agreed upon.
1225 – Sahl ibn Saʿd, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “In Paradise there is a gate called al-Rayyān; those who fast will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection, and no one else may enter it. It will be announced, ‘Where are the people of fasting?’ They will rise, and none but they will enter. When they have entered it will be closed, and no one else will pass through.” Agreed upon.
