standing until I was about to do something blameworthy. He was asked, “What did you have in mind?” He replied, “I thought of sitting down and leaving him.” Agreed upon.

1183 – Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ one night. He opened the prayer with Sūrat al-Baqarah, so I said to myself, ‘He will bow at the hundredth verse.’ Then he went on. I thought, ‘He is going to complete it in a single rakʿah,’ yet he continued, and I said to myself, ‘Now he will bow with it,’ but he began Sūrat an-Nisāʾ and recited it; after that he began Sūrat Āl ʿImrān and recited it—reciting slowly and deliberately (1). Whenever he passed a verse that contains glorification he glorified, when he came across a verse of request he asked, and when he encountered a verse of seeking refuge he sought refuge. Then he bowed saying, ‘Subḥāna rabbiy al-ʿaẓīm (Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great),’ and his bowing was almost as long as his standing. Next he said, ‘Samiʿa-llāhu liman ḥamidah; rabbanā laka l-ḥamd (Allah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise),’ and he stood for a long time, nearly as long as the bowing. He then prostrated and said, ‘Subḥāna rabbiy al-aʿlā (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High),’ and his prostration was almost as long as his standing.” Reported by Muslim.

1184 – Jābir, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, ‘Which prayer is best?’ He replied, ‘Prolonged qunūt (standing).’” Reported by Muslim.
The term qunūt here means the standing.

1185 – ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The prayer most loved by Allah is the prayer of David, and the fasting most loved by Allah is the fast of David. He used to sleep half the night, stand for one-third of it, then sleep for one-sixth; and he would fast one day and break his fast the next.” Agreed upon.

1186 – Jābir, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “In the night there is a moment during which no Muslim happens to ask Allah the Exalted for some good of this world or the Hereafter without Him granting it; and that occurs every night.” Reported by Muslim.

1187 – Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “When any of you rises from …”
