In another narration collected by al-Tirmidhī from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever attends the night prayer (ʿIshāʾ) in congregation will have the reward of standing for half the night; and whoever prays both the night (ʿIshāʾ) and the dawn (Fajr) prayers in congregation will receive the reward of standing for the whole night.” Al-Tirmidhī said: This hadith is sound and authentic.
1079 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If people knew the reward contained in the late-night prayer (al-ʿatamah, i.e., ʿIshāʾ) and the dawn prayer, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.” Agreed upon. The complete version has already been cited(1).
1080 – He also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “There is no prayer heavier upon the hypocrites than the dawn (Fajr) and the night (ʿIshāʾ) prayers; yet if they knew the merit contained in them, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.” Agreed upon.
193 – Chapter: The command to safeguard the prescribed prayers, the emphatic prohibition against neglecting them, and the severe warning for abandoning them
Allah the Exalted says: “Guard strictly the prayers, especially the middle prayer.” (Al-Baqara 2:238)
And He says: “But if they repent, establish prayer, and give the alms, then let them go on their way.” (Al-Tawbah 9:5)
1081 – Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Which deed is most virtuous?” He replied, “Prayer offered at its proper time.” I asked, “Then which?” He said, “Showing kindness to one’s parents.” I asked, “Then which?” He said, “Jihād in the cause of Allah.” Agreed upon.
1082 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Islam is built upon five: bearing witness that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; establishing prayer; paying zakāh; pilgrimage to the House; and fasting the month of Ramadan.” Agreed upon.
