in congregation is superior to the prayer offered alone(1) by twenty-seven degrees.” Agreed upon.
1072 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “A man’s prayer in congregation is multiplied twenty-five times over his prayer in his house or in his marketplace. That is because when he performs ablution well, then sets out for the mosque with nothing moving him except the prayer, he does not take a single step without being raised thereby one degree and having one sin removed. When he prays, the angels continue to invoke blessings upon him as long as he remains at his place of prayer, so long as he does not invalidate his state of purity. They say: ‘O Allah, bless him; O Allah, have mercy on him.’ And he is counted as being in prayer for as long as he is waiting for the prayer.” Agreed upon, and this is al-Bukhārī’s wording.
1073 – He also reported that a blind man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “Messenger of Allah, I have no guide to lead me to the mosque.” He therefore asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to grant him a concession to pray at home, and the Prophet allowed him. When the man turned to leave, the Prophet called him back and said, “Do you hear the call to prayer?” He replied, “Yes.” He said, “Then respond.” Related by Muslim.
1074 – ʿAbd Allah—or, it is said, ʿAmr(2) ibn Qays—better known as Ibn Umm Maktūm, the caller to prayer, (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah, Madinah has many pests(3) and wild beasts.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, “Do you hear ‘Ḥayya ʿala al-ṣalāh, ḥayya ʿala al-falāḥ’? Then come!” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a good chain.
The phrase “Ḥayyahallā” means: come.
1075 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “By the One in Whose hand is my soul…”
