devil will approach you until morning.’ So I let him go. When morning came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, ‘What became of your captive last night?’ I replied, ‘Messenger of Allah, he claimed he would teach me words by which Allah would benefit me, so I set him free.’ He said, ‘What were they?’ I answered, ‘He told me: When you lie down in your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi from the beginning until you finish the verse—“Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer.” He also said, “A guardian from Allah will remain with you, and no devil will come near you until morning.”’ The Prophet ﷺ remarked, ‘Indeed he has told you the truth (1), though he is a persistent liar. Do you know, Abu Hurayrah, whom you have been speaking to these three nights?’ I said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘That was Satan.’ Reported by al-Bukhari.
1028 – Abu al-Dardaʾ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever memorises ten verses from the beginning of Surah al-Kahf will be protected from the Dajjal.’ In another narration: ‘…from the end of Surah al-Kahf.’ (2) Both were narrated by Muslim.
1029 – Ibn ʿAbbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: While Gabriel was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ he heard a creaking noise above him. He raised his head and said, ‘This is a gate in heaven that has been opened today, and it has never been opened before this day.’ Then an angel descended, and he said, ‘This is an angel who has come down to earth today; he has never descended before.’ The angel greeted and said, ‘Rejoice in two lights that have been given to you, which no prophet before you was ever granted: the Opening of the Book (Surah al-Fatiha) and the closing verses of Surah al-Baqarah. You will never recite a single letter of them without being granted it.’ Narrated by Muslim.
“al-naqīḍ” means a creaking sound.
