– Chapter: The Excellence of Reciting the Quran

– Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Recite the Quran, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for its companions.” Narrated by Muslim.

– An-Nawwās ibn Samʿān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “On the Day of Resurrection the Quran will be brought along with its people—those who used to act upon it in the world. Surah al-Baqarah and Aal ʿImrān will precede it(1), pleading on behalf of those who adhered to them.” Narrated by Muslim.

– ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” Narrated by al-Bukhari.

– ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever recites the Quran fluently(2) will be with the noble, dutiful angels, and whoever recites it hesitantly, stumbling over it, and finds it difficult shall receive a double reward.” Agreed upon.

– Abu Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

(1) That is, it precedes him. The verb *tuhajjan*—with a ḍamma on the first t and a doubled j—means: the two surahs argue on behalf of the one who recites them and acts upon them. (2) It means that his pronunciation is elevated and properly articulated, so that he neither confuses similar passages nor stops inappropriately while reciting. The phrase *maʿa as-safarah* refers to the safarah, the angels who convey revelation to the messengers—peace and blessings be upon them. *al-barrarah* denotes the obedient and virtuous; that is, he will be with them in their stations in the Hereafter. The expression *yatataʿʿaʿu fīhi* signifies that he hesitates and stammers in his recitation, his tongue becoming sluggish.
