172 – Chapter: Recommending supplication during travel
987 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Three supplications are answered, about them there is no doubt (1): the supplication of the wronged person, the supplication of the traveller, and the supplication of a parent against his child.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who graded it ḥasan. In Abū Dāwūd’s version the phrase “against his child” is absent.

988 – Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (may Allah be pleased with him) related that whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ feared a people he would say, “Allāhumma innā najʿaluk fī nuḥūrihim, wa naʿūdhu bika min shurūrihim (O Allah, we place You before them and seek refuge in You from their evils).” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī with a sound chain of transmission.
174 – Chapter: What to say when stopping at a campsite
989 – Khawlah bint Ḥakīm (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declare, “Whoever alights at a place and then says, ‘Aʿūdhu bikalimāti-llāhi at-tāmmāt min sharri mā khalaq (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of whatever He has created),’ nothing will harm him until he departs from that place.” Reported by Muslim.
990 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was travelling and night approached he would say, “O earth, my Lord and your Lord is Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from your evil, the evil within you, the evil that was created in you, and the evil of whatever crawls upon you (2). I seek refuge in You from the evil of a lion, an apparition in the darkness, and from the serpent…”
