917 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the moment of death. A cup filled with water stood beside him; he would dip his hand into the cup and wipe his face with the water, then he would supplicate, “O Allah, help me against the agonies of death (1) – or the throes of death.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī (2).
148 – Chapter: The recommendation to counsel the family of the sick person, and those who nurse him, to be gentle with him, bear with him, and remain patient with whatever hardship comes from his condition; likewise, to counsel anyone whose death is imminent because of a legal penalty, retaliation, or the like.
918 – ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that a woman from the tribe of Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant from fornication. She said, “Messenger of Allah, I have incurred a legal penalty; carry it out on me.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for her guardian and said, “Treat her well, and when she gives birth bring her to me.” He did so, and after she had delivered, the Prophet ﷺ ordered that her clothes be secured around her; then he commanded that she be stoned, and afterwards he offered the funeral prayer for her. Reported by Muslim.
149 – Chapter: The permissibility for a sick person to say, “I am in pain,” “My pain is severe,” “I have a fever,” “Oh, my head,” and similar expressions, with an explanation that there is no objection to this so long as it is not said in a spirit of resentment or panic.
919 – Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ when he was suffering from fever. I touched him and said, “You are experiencing a very intense fever.” He replied, “Yes, I suffer the fever of two men among you.” Agreed upon.
