144 – Chapter: Visiting the Sick

899 – al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to visit the sick, follow funeral processions, supplicate for the sneezer, honour the oath of one who adjures us, support the oppressed, answer invitations, and spread the greeting of peace. Agreed upon.

900 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Muslim has five rights over another Muslim: returning the greeting of peace, visiting the sick, following funerals, accepting invitations, and praying for one who sneezes.” Agreed upon.

901 – He also narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘Son of Adam, I fell ill and you did not visit Me.’ He will reply, ‘My Lord, how could I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say, ‘Did you not know that My servant So-and-so was ill and you did not visit him? Did you not realize that had you visited him you would have found Me with him?

‘Son of Adam, I asked you for food and you did not feed Me.’ He will reply, ‘My Lord, how could I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say, ‘Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you did not feed him? Did you not realize that had you fed him you would have found that reward with Me?

‘Son of Adam, I asked you for drink and you did not give Me any.’ He will reply, ‘My Lord, how could I give You drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say, ‘My servant So-and-so asked you for drink and you did not give him any. Did you not realize that had you given him drink you would have found that with Me?’” Reported by Muslim.

902 – Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Visit—”
