occurred during that gathering.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ hadith.
– Abū Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say, at the end⦗1⦘ of a sitting when he intended to rise, “Subḥānaka Allāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā Anta, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise is Yours; I bear witness that there is no deity but You; I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You).” A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, you are saying something you did not use to say before.” He replied, “That is an expiation for whatever may have taken place in the gathering.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd, and also by al-Ḥākim Abū ʿAbd Allāh in the Mustadrak from the narration of ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: its chain is sound.
– Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would rarely leave a gathering without making the following supplication: “O Allah, grant us such fear of You as will stand between us and disobedience to You; grant us such obedience to You as will lead us to Your Paradise; and grant us such certainty as will make the calamities of this world easy for us. O Allah, let us enjoy our hearing, our sight, and our strength for as long as You keep us alive, and make them our heirs. Exact our revenge upon those who have wronged us; support us against those who show enmity toward us; do not place our trial in our religion; do not make this world our greatest concern nor the limit of our knowledge; and do not set over us anyone who will show us no mercy.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a ḥasan hadith.
– Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “No people rise from a gathering in which they did not remember Allah Most High except that they rise as if from the carcass of a donkey, and it will be a cause of regret for them.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd with a sound chain.
– From him, from the Prophet ﷺ: “No people sit in a gathering in which they fail to remember Allah Most High and do not invoke blessings upon their Prophet but that it becomes a liability against them; if He wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a ḥasan hadith.
