regarding it; then he said, “and my Household— I remind you before Allah concerning my Household.” Muslim related it, and it has been quoted earlier in full. (1)
717 – Abū Sulaymān Mālik ibn al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while we were a band of young men of similar age, and we stayed with him for twenty nights. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was compassionate and gentle; he perceived that we were homesick for our families, so he asked about those we had left behind. When we told him, he said, “Return to your families, stay with them, teach them, and command them. Pray such-and-such at such-and-such a time, and pray such-and-such at such-and-such a time. When the time for prayer arrives, let one of you call the adhān, and let the eldest among you lead the prayer.” Agreed upon.
Al-Bukhārī adds in another version: “Pray as you have seen me praying.”
His description “raḥīman rafīqan” (“compassionate and gentle”) is transmitted with the letters fāʾ and qāf (rafīqan) and also with two qāfs (raqīqan).
718 – ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Prophet ﷺ for permission to perform ʿumrah. He granted it and said, “Do not forget us, my brother, in your supplication.” He uttered a phrase for which I would not exchange the whole world. In another narration he said, “Include us, my brother, in your supplication.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who graded it sound and good. (2)
719 – Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar related that ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say to a man when he intended to travel, “Come closer so that I may bid you farewell just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to bid us farewell,” then he would say, “I entrust to Allah your religion, your trustworthiness, and the last of your deeds.” Al-Tirmidhī reported it and said: a sound and good ḥadīth.
