76 – Chapter: Enduring Harm
Allah the Exalted says, “Those who restrain their anger and pardon people—Allah loves those who excel in doing good” (Āl ʿImrān 3:134). He also says, “Whoever is patient and forgives—indeed, that is one of the matters requiring firm resolve” (Ash-Shūrā 42:43).
The prophetic reports mentioned in the preceding chapter likewise apply here.
653 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives with whom I maintain ties, yet they cut me off; I treat them well, but they treat me badly; I act with forbearance toward them while they behave ignorantly toward me!” He replied, “If you are as you say, it is as though you are feeding them hot ashes,(1) and you will continue to have an ally from Allah Most High against them for as long as you remain upon that.” Reported by Muslim.
Its explanation has already appeared under “Chapter on Maintaining Kinship Ties.”(2)
77 – Chapter: Anger When the Sacred Limits Are Violated and Championing the Religion of Allah the Exalted
Allah the Exalted says, “Whoever venerates the sanctities of Allah—it is better for him with his Lord” (Al-Ḥajj 22:30). And He says, “If you support Allah, He will support you and make your feet firm” (Muḥammad 47:7).
This chapter also includes the hadith of ʿĀʾishah cited earlier under the “Chapter on Pardon.”(3)
