647 – Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Shall I inform you of the one who is forbidden to the Fire—or of the person from whom the Fire is kept away? The Fire is forbidden to every servant who is approachable, gentle, soft-hearted, and easygoing.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it ḥasan (sound).
Chapter 75 – Pardoning and Turning Away from the Ignorant
Allah the Exalted says: “Show forgiveness, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant” (7:199); and He says: “So pardon them with gracious pardon” (15:85); and He says: “Let them pardon and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?” (24:22); and He says: “and those who restrain their anger and pardon people—Allah loves the doers of good” (3:134); and He says: “Yet whoever is patient and forgives—indeed, that is of the matters requiring firm resolve” (42:43). Many other well-known verses address this topic.
648 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) related that she once asked the Prophet ﷺ, “Has there been a day harder for you than the Day of Uḥud?” He replied, “I have endured much from your people, and the hardest treatment I received from them was on the day of al-ʿAqabah. On that day I presented myself to Ibn ʿAbd Yālīl ibn ʿAbd Kulāl, but he did not grant me what I sought. I departed, heavy-hearted, and only regained my senses when I found myself at Qarn al-Thaʿālib (1). I lifted my head and saw a cloud shading me. I looked and, behold, Gabriel was in it. He called out, ‘Allah Almighty has heard what your people said to you and how they responded. He has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you so that you may command him as you wish concerning them.’ Then the Angel of the Mountains called me, greeted me with peace, and said, ‘O Muhammad, Allah has heard what your people said to you. I am the Angel of the Mountains, and my Lord has sent me to you so that you may command me as you wish. If you wish, I will cause the two rugged mountains to collapse upon them.’”
