and majesty is My cloak; whoever tries to rival Me in either of them I shall punish.” Narrated by Muslim.
624 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A man was once walking in a fine two-piece garment (1) that pleased him greatly; his hair was carefully combed and he strutted arrogantly. Suddenly Allah caused the earth to swallow him, and he continues to sink down in it until the Day of Resurrection.” Agreed upon.
“His hair was carefully combed” (murajjil raʾsahu) means it had been neatly groomed. “He continues to sink” (yatajaljal) – with two jīm letters – means he keeps descending and plunging.
625 – Salama ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “A man keeps exalting himself until he is written among the tyrants, and then he will be struck by whatever befell them.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it ḥasan (sound).
“To exalt himself” (yadhhabu binafsihi) means to elevate himself and act arrogantly.

Allah the Exalted said: “And indeed, you are of an exalted standard of character.” (Q 68:4)
He also said: “Those who restrain their anger and who pardon people…” (Q 3:134)
626 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had the finest character of all people. Agreed upon.
627 – He also said: I never touched silk or brocade softer than the palm of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor smelled any fragrance more pleasant than his scent. I served the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for ten years; never once did he say to me “Fie,” nor did he ever say about something I had done, “Why …”
