583 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Hasten to perform good deeds before seven (1) things befall you. Are you waiting for anything but poverty that makes one forget, wealth that leads to tyranny, sickness that spoils a man, debilitating old age that renders him senile (2), sudden death that takes him away (3), the Antichrist— for he is the worst absentee whose arrival is awaited— or the Hour? And the Hour is far more calamitous and bitter!” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who graded it ḥasan.
584 – He also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Increase your remembrance of the destroyer of pleasures,” meaning death. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who graded it ḥasan.
585 – Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When one-third of the night had passed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would rise (4) and proclaim, “O people, remember Allah! The first blast has come; it will be followed by the second blast (5). Death has arrived with all that it entails—death has arrived with all that it entails.” I said, “O Messenger of Allah, I devote much of my supplication to sending blessings upon you. How much of it should I allocate to you?” He replied, “As much as you wish.” I said, “A quarter?” He said, “As much as you wish, and if you increase it, that is better for you.” I said, “A half?” He said, “As much as you wish, and if you increase it, that is better for you.” I said, “Two-thirds?” He said, “As much as you wish, and if you increase it, that is better for you.” I said, “Shall I make all of my supplication for you?” He said, “Then your concerns will be relieved and your sins forgiven.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who graded it ḥasan.
