572 – Sahl ibn Saʿd (may Allah be pleased with him) related: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a burdah (a woven cloak) and said, “I wove it with my own hands so that I could clothe you with it.” The Prophet ﷺ accepted it, for he was in need of it. He later came out to us wearing it as his izar (lower wrap)(1). A man said, “Clothe me with it—how beautiful it is!” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet ﷺ remained seated for a while, then went back, folded it, and sent it to the man. The people said to him, “You have not done well! The Prophet ﷺ wore it because he needed it, yet you asked him for it, knowing that he never turns a petitioner away.” He answered, “By Allah, I did not ask for it so that I could wear it; I asked for it so that it would be my shroud.” Sahl added, “And it became his shroud.” Narrated by al-Bukhari.
573 – Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When the Ashʿarīs run short of provisions while on campaign, or when their families’ food in Madinah becomes scarce, they gather whatever each of them has in a single cloth and then divide it equally among themselves from one vessel. They are of me, and I am of them.” Agreed upon. “Armalū”: their supplies were exhausted or nearly exhausted.
63 – Chapter: Competing in the Matters of the Hereafter and Seeking Abundance in What Brings Blessing
Allah the Exalted says: “And for that let the competitors compete” (Al-Mutaffifin 83:26).
574 – Sahl ibn Saʿd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought a drink and drank from it. On his right was a boy and on his left were some elders. He said to the boy, “Do you permit me to give these (elders)?” The boy replied, “No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I will not give up my share from you to anyone.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then placed it in his hand. Agreed upon(2).
