flounders about in his wealth without knowledge; he shows no fear of his Lord in the way he handles it, maintains no ties of kinship through it, and acknowledges no right of Allah in it. Such a person occupies the foulest station. And fourth: a servant to whom Allah has granted neither wealth nor knowledge. He says, “If I had wealth, I would act with it as so-and-so does.” He is judged by his intention, and the burden of sin is the same for both of them.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ (sound and authentic) hadith.
