Riyad al-SalihinAl-Nawawi

512 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “The Prophet’s mattress was a tanned leather hide (1) stuffed with palm fibers.” Al-Bukhārī narrated it.

513 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: “We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from the Anṣār came and greeted him. After offering the salām, the Anṣārī turned to leave. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘O brother of the Anṣār, how is my brother Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah?’ He replied, ‘He is well.’ The Prophet ﷺ then asked, ‘Who among you will visit him?’ He rose, and we rose with him—about a dozen of us. None of us had sandals, leather socks, caps, or shirts. We walked across those saline flats until we reached him. His family stepped back from around him until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the companions who were with him came close.” Muslim narrated it.

514 – ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The best of you are the people of my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them.” ʿImrān added, “I do not know whether the Prophet ﷺ mentioned two generations after his or three,” and he continued: “Then there will come people who give testimony without being asked, who betray and are not trustworthy, who make vows yet do not fulfill them, and among whom obesity will become widespread.” Agreed upon.

515 – Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Son of Adam, spending what is in excess is better for you, while holding on to it is worse for you. You will not be reproached for keeping what suffices, and begin with those you support.” (2) Al-Tirmidhī narrated it and said: “A sound, good ḥadīth.”

516 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muḥṣin al-Anṣārī al-Khaṭmī (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever wakes up among you secure in his dwelling, healthy in his body, and possessing his day’s provision—”

(1) al-udm (with a u-vowel on the hamza) denotes leather or hide. (2) In other words, it pertains to the right of those you are obliged to support and provide for—such as a wife, a needy ascendant or descendant, or a servant. I add: The hadith is also narrated by Muslim, 3/94, and is documented in Irwa al-Ghalil, no. 820 – N –.
