493 – Al-Bukhārī likewise recorded it through the narration of ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn.
494 – Usāmah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “I stood at the gate of Paradise and found that the majority of those who entered it were the poor, while the people of fortune and wealth were being detained—although the people of the Fire had already been ordered to the Fire.” Agreed upon.
(Al-jad means good fortune, that is, material wealth. The explanation of this ḥadīth has already appeared in the chapter on the virtue of the weak.)
495 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The truest line ever uttered by a poet is Labīd’s verse: ‘Behold, everything apart from Allah is vanity.’” Agreed upon. (1)
56 – Chapter
The virtue of hunger and austere living; contentment with a small measure of food, drink, and clothing, and with other worldly comforts; and the renunciation of desires
Allah the Exalted says: “Then there succeeded them a generation (2) who neglected the prayer and pursued their passions, so they will meet ruin (3)—except for those who repent, believe, and act righteously; such people will enter Paradise and will not be wronged in the least.” [Maryam 59–60]
He, Most High, also says: “So he came out (4) before his people in his splendor. Those who desired the life of this world said, ‘If only we had the like of what Qārūn has been given—indeed, he is a man of great fortune!’ * But those who had been given knowledge said, ‘Woe to you! Allah’s reward is better for anyone who believes and acts righteously.’” [Al-Qaṣaṣ 79–80]
And He says: “Then you will surely be questioned that Day about the blessings.” [At-Takāthur 8]
