are they. Then he said to me, “Stay where you are; do not move until I come back to you.” He set off into the darkness of night until he disappeared from view (1). I heard a sound rise up and feared that someone might have waylaid (2) the Prophet ﷺ. I wanted to go to him, but I remembered his instruction, “Do not move until I return to you,” so I stayed where I was until he came back. I said, “I heard a sound that alarmed me,” and I told him about it. He asked, “Did you hear it?” I replied, “Yes.” He said, “That was Gabriel who came to me and said, ‘Whoever from your community dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.’” I asked, “Even if he committed adultery and theft?” He replied, “Even if he committed adultery and theft.” Agreed upon, and this is al-Bukhari’s wording.
470 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If I possessed gold equal to Mount Uhud, I would love that no three nights pass over me while any of it remains with me, except something I keep for a debt.” Agreed upon.
471 – He also narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Look at those who are below you and do not look at those who are above you; that is more likely (3) to keep you from belittling Allah’s favor upon you.” Agreed upon, and this is Muslim’s wording.
In another narration in al-Bukhari: “When one of you looks at someone who has been favored over him in wealth and physique (4), let him look at someone who is below him.”
472 – He further reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Wretched (5) is the slave of the dinar, the dirham, the velvet cloak, and the striped mantle; if he is given he is pleased, and if he is not given he is displeased.” Reported by al-Bukhari.
