and al-Tirmidhi likewise recorded it in al-Shamaʾil with a sound chain of transmission.
456 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (may Allah be pleased with him), “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has commanded me to recite to you: Lam yakuni lladhīna kafarū (“Those who disbelieved…”).” Ubayy asked, “Did He mention me by name?” The Prophet replied, “Yes,” so Ubayy wept. Agreed upon.
Another wording reads: Ubayy began to cry continuously.
457 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported: After the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr said to ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them), “Come with me to Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) so that we may visit her as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do.” When they arrived, she began to weep. They said to her, “What makes you weep? Do you not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” She replied, “I do not weep (1) because I am unaware that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; rather, I weep because revelation has ceased from heaven.” Her words moved them to tears, and they wept along with her. Reported by Muslim; it has already been mentioned in the Chapter on Visiting the Righteous.
458 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in intense pain, he was asked about the prayer. He said, “Instruct Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “Abū Bakr is a tender-hearted man (2); when he recites the Qur’an he is overcome by weeping.” He replied, “Tell him to lead the prayer.”
In another narration ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, “I said, ‘If Abū Bakr stands in your place, the people will not be able to hear him because of his weeping.’” Agreed upon.
459 – Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf reported that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf (may Allah be pleased with him) was brought some food while he was fasting. He said, “Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was killed, and he was better than I am. Nothing could be found to shroud him in except a cloak; if his head was covered, his feet became exposed, and if…"
