Khazīrah—spelled with the letters khāʾ and zāy—is a porridge of fine flour cooked with fat. The expression “thāba rijāl” (with an initial thāʾ) means: “men came and gathered.”
423 – ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah be pleased with him) related: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived with some captives. A woman among the captives was rushing about; when she found a baby among them she took him, pressed him to her chest, and nursed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, ‘Do you think this woman would throw her child into the Fire?’ We replied, ‘By Allah, no.’ He said, ‘Allah is even more merciful to His servants than this woman is to her child.’” Agreed upon.
424 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When Allah created the creation, He wrote in a Book that is with Him above the Throne: ‘My mercy prevails over My wrath.’” In another wording: “outstrips My wrath,” and in another: “has preceded My wrath.”⦗1⦘ Agreed upon.
425 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Allah made mercy one hundred parts. He retained with Himself ninety-nine parts and sent down to the earth one part; through that single part the creatures show mercy to one another, so much so that an animal lifts its hoof away from its young for fear of harming it.’
“In another narration: ‘Allah Most High has one hundred mercies. He sent down one mercy among the jinn, humankind, beasts, and crawling creatures; by it they show affection, by it they show compassion, and by it a wild beast is tender to its young. Allah Most High has held back ninety-nine mercies with which He will show mercy to His servants on the Day of Resurrection.’” Agreed upon.
Muslim also transmitted it from Salmān al-Fārisī (may Allah be pleased with him): the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah Most High has one hundred mercies: one of them He has sent down by which the creation shows mercy among themselves, and ninety-nine are reserved for the Day of Resurrection.”
