“Place it in your vessels.” They did so, filling every container in the camp until none was left unfilled. They ate until they were satisfied, and still some remained. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah; no servant meets Allah with these two testimonies, free of doubt, and is then barred from Paradise.” Reported by Muslim.
422 – ʿItbān ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him), one of those who fought at Badr, related: “I used to lead my people, the Banū Sālim, in prayer, but a valley lay between us; when the rains came it flooded, and crossing it (1) to reach their mosque became difficult for me. I therefore went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, ‘My sight has weakened, and the valley between me and my people overflows when it rains, making the crossing hard for me. I would like you to come and pray in a spot in my house so that I may take it as a place of prayer.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, ‘I will do so.’
“The next morning, after the day had grown hot (2), the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came with Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked permission to enter, and I granted it. He did not sit down before saying, ‘Where in your house would you like me to pray?’ I pointed to the spot I preferred. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and proclaimed the takbīr; we formed a row behind him, and he prayed two rakʿahs, then gave the salām, and we gave the salām with him. I detained him for a dish of khazīrah—flour cooked with fat—that was being prepared for him.
“When the people of the neighborhood (3) heard that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my home, men came until many had gathered. One of them said, ‘What has happened to Mālik? I do not see him.’ Another answered, ‘That man is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah or His Messenger.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Do not say that! Do you not see that he says, “There is no god but Allah,” seeking thereby the Face of Allah, Exalted is He?’ The man replied, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best, but by Allah we never see him showing affection or conversation except with the hypocrites.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Allah has made the Fire unlawful for anyone who says, “There is no god but Allah,” seeking thereby the Face of Allah.’” Agreed upon.
‘ʿItbān’ is pronounced with a kasra on the initial ʿayn, a quiescent tā’, followed by a bā’.
