48 – Chapter: A Warning against Harming the Righteous, the Weak, and the Needy
Allah the Exalted says, “Those who harm believing men and believing women without their having deserved it have certainly shouldered a slander and a manifest sin.” (Al-Aḥzāb 33:58)
He also says, “So as for the orphan, do not oppress him; and as for the petitioner, do not repel him.” (Ad-Ḍuḥā 93:9-10)
Many prophetic texts speak to this, among them:
– The ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah cited in the previous chapter: “Whoever shows enmity to a friend (walī) of Mine, I have declared war upon him.” (1)
– The ḥadīth of Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ mentioned earlier in the chapter on kindness to the orphan (2), and the Prophet’s words ﷺ: “O Abū Bakr, if you have angered them, you have indeed angered your Lord.” (3)
394 – Jundub ibn ʿAbd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever performs the dawn prayer is under Allah’s protection; so let not Allah demand from you anything concerning His protection. For whoever He demands from His protection, He will overtake him and then cast him face-first into the Fire of Hell.” Reported by Muslim. (4)(5)
49 – Chapter: Applying Rulings to People According to Their Outward State, while Their Inner Secrets Are to Allah the Exalted
Allah the Exalted says, “But if they repent, establish the prayer, and give the zakāt, then let them go on their way.” (At-Tawbah 9:11)
