364 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) related: After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, Abū Bakr said to ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both), “Come with me to visit Umm Ayman (1) just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit her.” When they reached her, she began to weep. They asked, “Why are you crying? Do you not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” She replied, “I am not weeping because I do not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; rather, I weep because revelation has ceased to come down from heaven.” Her words moved them, and they started to weep along with her. Recorded by Muslim.
365 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “A man set out to visit a brother of his in another village. Allah Almighty stationed an angel on his path. When the man passed by, the angel asked, ‘Where are you heading?’ He replied, ‘I am going to visit a brother of mine in this village.’ The angel said, ‘Is there a favor you hope to repay?’ He answered, ‘No, only that I love him for the sake of Allah, the Exalted.’ The angel then said, ‘I am a messenger from Allah to tell you that Allah loves you just as you have loved him for His sake.’” Recorded by Muslim.
The Arabs say arsadahu li-kadha (“he posted him for such-and-such”) when he appoints someone to guard it. The word madrajah (with fatḥa on the mīm and the rāʾ) means “road,” and the verb turabbihā means “to look after it and strive for its improvement.”
