Concerning this subject there are many well-known sound reports in the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections. Among them are the story of the men in the cave (1) and the story of Jurayj (2), both of which have already been cited, as well as other famous narrations that I have omitted for brevity. One of the most significant among them is the lengthy ḥadīth of ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah (may Allah be pleased with him), which includes several important passages.

…Allah and the righteous believers; yet they have a tie of kinship that I shall uphold, keeping it watered with its due.” Agreed upon; this is al-Bukhārī’s wording.

336 – Abū Ayyūb Khālid ibn Zayd al-Anṣārī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man asked, “O Messenger of Allah, inform me of a deed that will bring me into Paradise and keep me far from the Fire.” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prayer, give the zakāh, and maintain the ties of kinship.” Agreed upon.

337 – Salmān ibn ʿĀmir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “When one of you breaks his fast, let him break it with dates, for they are a blessing; if he cannot find dates, then with water, for it is purifying.” He also said, “Charity to a poor person is one charity, whereas charity to a relative counts as two: charity and maintaining kinship.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it ḥasan (1).

338 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I had a wife whom I loved, but my father ʿUmar disliked her. He told me, “Divorce her,” and I refused. ʿUmar then went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned the matter, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, “Divorce her.” Reported by Abū Dāwūd and al-Tirmidhī, who judged it sound and good.

339 – Abū al-Dardāʾ (may Allah be pleased with him) related that a man came to him and said, “I have a wife, but my mother is ordering me to divorce her.” Abū al-Dardāʾ replied, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘The father is the middlemost of the gates of Paradise; if you wish, squander that gate, and if you wish, preserve it.’” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who graded it sound and good.
