319 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should maintain his family ties; and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or else remain silent.” (1) Agreed upon.
320 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When Allah, exalted is He, created the creation and finished with them (2), the bond of kinship (raḥim) stood and said, ‘This is the place of one who seeks refuge with You from being cut off.’ He said, ‘Yes. Are you not pleased that I join with those who join you and cut off those who cut you off?’ It replied, ‘Indeed.’ He said, ‘That is granted to you.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, ‘Recite, if you wish: {So would you, perhaps (3), if you turned away, spread corruption on earth and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed; He made them deaf (4) and blinded their sight} [Sūrat Muḥammad 22–23].” Agreed upon.
In another narration recorded by al-Bukhārī: Allah the Exalted said, “Whoever maintains you, I will maintain him, and whoever cuts you off, I will cut him off.”
321 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, “Messenger of Allah, who is the most deserving of my good company?” He replied, “Your mother.” The man asked, “Then who?” He said, “Your mother.” He asked, “Then who?” He said, “Your mother.” He asked again, “Then who?” He said, “Your father.” Agreed upon.
In another narration he asked, “Messenger of Allah, who has the greatest claim to my good companionship?” He said, “Your mother, then your mother, then your mother, then your father, then the next closest, and the next closest.”
The term “ṣaḥābah” here means companionship, and his statement “then your father” is in the accusative because of an omitted verb.
