his wife to his bed and she refuses him (1), the One who is in heaven is displeased with her until he is pleased with her.

288 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “It is not permissible for a woman to fast while her husband is present (2) except with his permission, nor may she admit anyone into his house without his permission.” Agreed upon; this is the wording of al-Bukhari.

289 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them both) related that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you will be questioned about his flock. The ruler is a shepherd; a man is a shepherd over the members of his household; and a woman is a shepherd over her husband’s house and his children. So each of you is a shepherd, and each of you will be questioned about his flock.” Agreed upon.

290 – Abu ʿAli Ṭalq ibn ʿAli (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When a man calls his wife for his need, she should come to him even if she is standing at the oven.” Reported by al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa’i; al-Tirmidhi graded it ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.

291 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded a woman to prostrate to her husband.” Related by al-Tirmidhi, who declared it ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.

292 – Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stated, “Any woman who dies while her husband is pleased with her will enter Paradise.” Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who classed it as ḥasan (3).

293 – Muʿadh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Let not a woman harm….”

(1) In other words, if she withholds, Allah—blessed and exalted be He—remains displeased with her until her husband is pleased with her. The hadith is one among many proofs that Allah is in heaven, meaning in absolute exaltedness, above the Throne and all creation. (2) shahid: i.e., present. (3) I remark that its isnad contains two unidentified narrators; see al-Da‘ifa, no. 1426.
