he said, “This is for you, and this was presented to me as a gift.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ thereupon ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
“Now then: I appoint one of you to a task from that which Allah has placed under my authority, and he returns saying, ‘This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift.’ Could he not have stayed in his father’s or mother’s house so that his gift might reach him—if he is really telling the truth?! By Allah, no one of you takes anything without right except that he will meet Allah the Exalted carrying it on the Day of Resurrection. Let me not see any one of you meeting Allah bearing a camel that is braying (1), or a cow that is lowing, or a sheep that is bleating.”
He then raised his hands until the whiteness of his armpits was visible and said, “O Allah, have I conveyed?” Agreed upon.
215 – Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything else, let him seek his pardon today, before a time comes when there will be no dinar and no dirham. If he has righteous deeds, they will be taken from him in proportion to his wrongdoing; and if he has no good deeds, some of the evil deeds of his companion will be taken and laid upon him.” Reported by al-Bukhari.
216 – ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and a muhajir is the one who abandons what Allah has forbidden.” Agreed upon.
217 – And he, may Allah be pleased with him, also reported: “There was a man called Karkarah who was in charge of the Prophet’s ﷺ baggage (2). He died, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘He is in the Fire.’ They went to look at him (3) and found a cloak he had misappropriated.” Reported by al-Bukhari.
