180 – Abū al-ʿAbbās Sahl ibn Saʿd al-Sāʿidī (may Allah be pleased with him) related that on the day of Khaybar the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Tomorrow I shall certainly give this banner to a man through whose hand Allah will grant victory. He loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.” That night the people spent their time discussing and wondering which of them would receive it. When morning came, they all went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, each hoping to be the one. He asked, “Where is ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib?” They replied, “Messenger of Allah, he is suffering from his eyes.” He said, “Send for him.” When ʿAlī was brought, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spat into his eyes and prayed for him, and he was cured as though he had never felt any pain. The Prophet then handed him the banner. ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they become like us?” He replied, “Advance calmly until you reach their courtyard; then invite them to Islam and inform them of what Allah the Exalted requires of them. By Allah, for Allah to guide a single man through you is better for you than red camels.” (1) Agreed upon.
His words “yadūkūn”: that is, they plunged into conversation and talked about it. His words “ʿalā rislik”: it may be pronounced with a kasrah or a fatḥah on the rāʾ; the kasrah is more eloquent.
181 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a young man from Aslam said, “Messenger of Allah, I want to go out on campaign but I have nothing with which to equip myself.” He replied, “Go to So-and-so; he had prepared for the expedition but fell ill.” The youth went to him and said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sends you greetings of peace and says: ‘Give me what you prepared.’” The man said to his wife, “O So-and-so, give him what I prepared and do not withhold anything from it. By Allah, do not withhold anything from it, and Allah will bless it for you.” Narrated by Muslim.
