168 – Ninth: On his authority it is related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that one lick one’s fingers and one’s dish, saying, “You do not know in which of them the blessing lies.” Narrated by Muslim.
In another version in Muslim he said, “If a morsel of food drops from any of you, let him pick it up, wipe off(1) whatever dirt may be on it, and eat it; let him not leave it for Satan. Nor should he wipe his hand with a cloth until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies.”
A further wording in Muslim states, “Satan attends each of you in every affair of his—even when he eats. So if a morsel falls from any of you, let him remove whatever has adhered to it, then eat it and not leave it for Satan.”
169 – Tenth: Ibn ʿAbbās, may Allah be pleased with them both, reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and delivered an exhortation, saying, “O people! You will be gathered before Allah Most High barefoot, naked and uncircumcised—
‘Just as We began the first creation, We shall bring it back again; that is a promise binding upon Us, and We shall certainly fulfill it’ (Q 21:104).
Know that the first of creation to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Abraham, peace be upon him. Know also that men from my community will be brought forth and taken toward the left-hand side(2). I will say, ‘My Lord, my companions!’ but it will be said, ‘You do not know what they introduced after you.’ I shall then say what the righteous servant said:
‘I was a witness over them so long as I remained among them, but when You took me up You became the Watcher over them, and You are Witness over all things …’—to His words: ‘the Almighty, the All-Wise’ (Q 5:117)(3).
Then I will be told, ‘They continued to apostatize, turning back on their heels, from the moment you left them.’” Agreed upon.
“Uncircumcised” (ghurlan) means: not circumcised.
170 – Eleventh: Abū Saʿīd ʿAbdullāh ibn Mughaffil, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade …”
(1) i.e., remove.
