has become an object toward which the common people direct their prayers, resulting in the very danger that was feared. They later built two additional walls, starting from the grave’s two northern corners and angling them until they converged, so that no one could possibly face the grave directly.”
“...between the mosque and the grave?” He replied: “Yes; he used to forbid that.” ʿAbd al-Razzaq records it in his Musannaf (1/404/1579).
If this eminent tabiʿi (Ata ibn Abi Rabah) did not regard the mosque wall as a proper barrier between the worshipper and a grave located outside the mosque, can anyone claim that windows, an iron lattice, or even the fact that the grave itself lies inside the mosque constitute an adequate separation? Does this not suffice to convince those writers—despite their ignorance, their errors, and their rash pronouncements on matters of which they have no knowledge? One can only hope!
As for the Noble Prophet’s Mosque, there is no dislike (karaha) in praying there, contrary to what they have falsely attributed to us; a detailed discussion will follow in Chapter Seven, if Allah the Exalted wills.
I must also alert dear readers that these same writers have already conceded—in the very statement quoted above—that prayer in a mosque containing a grave not enclosed by a maqsurah (protective screen) is makruh (reprehensible). They lift that ruling only, according to them, for the Umayyad Mosque because they claim the underlying reason no longer applies. Will they now proclaim this admission openly to the public, or was it merely a forced concession to avoid contradicting the aforementioned hadiths—while never actually inviting people to act on them, for motives that any intelligent person can readily discern?
