13 – ʿAli ibn Abi Talib narrated:
Al-ʿAbbas met me and said, “O ʿAli, come with me to the Prophet ﷺ. If there is still any position for us in this affair, he will tell us; otherwise, he will at least counsel the people regarding us.”
So we entered upon him while he was unconscious. He then lifted his head and said, “May Allah curse the Jews; they turned the graves of their prophets into places of worship.”
In another version it adds: “He repeated it a third time.”
When we saw the condition he was in, we left without asking him anything. (1)
(= and no. 4143). Al-Tabarani relates it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (3/77/1); Abu Yaʿla in his Musnad (1/257); and Abu Nuʿaym in Akhbar Isbahan (1/142), all with a good (hasan) chain. Ahmad likewise records it (no. 4342) through another chain that is also hasan when compared with the previous one, and the hadith is sound (sahih) when both chains are combined.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah says in Minhaj al-Sunnah (1/311) and al-Iqtida (p. 158): “Its isnad is good,” while al-Haythami remarks (2/27): “Al-Tabarani reports it in al-Kabir with a hasan chain.”
Restricting the attribution to al-Tabarani alone is plainly inadequate, since it appears in the Musnad (of Ahmad) at three different locations, as we indicated above!

١٣ - عن علي بن أبي طالب قال :
لقيني العباس فقال : يا علي انطلق بنا إلى النبي ﷺ ، فإن كان لنا من الأمر شيء ، وإلا أوصى بنا الناس ، فدخلنا عليه وهو مغمى عليه ، فرفع رأسه فقال : «لعن الله اليهود اتخذوا قبور الأنبياء مساجد» . زاد في رواية : «ثم قالها الثالثة» . فلما رأينا ما به خرجنا ولم نسأله عن شيء (١) .
= و٤١٤٣) والطبراني في «المعجم الكبير» (٣/٧٧/١) وأبو يعلى في «مسنده» (١/٢٥٧) وأبو نعيم في «أخبار أصبهان» (١/١٤٢) بإسناد حسن وأحمد أيضاً (رقم ٤٣٤٢) بسند آخر حسن بما قبله، والحديث بمجموعهما صحيح .
وقال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية في «منهاج السنة» (١٣١١) و«الاقتضاء» (ص ١٥٨) : «وإسناده جيد» وقال الهيثمي (٢/٢٧) : «رواه الطبراني في الكبير وإسناده حسن» .
وفي اقتصاره في عزوه على الطبراني وحده قصور ظاهر، مع أنه في المسند في ثلاثة مواضع منه كما أشرنا إليهما آنفاً !
