3–4 – ʿĀʾisha and Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was nearing death, he would draw the edge of a khamīṣa (1) over his face. Whenever he felt distressed, he would uncover his face and say, “May Allah curse the Jews and the Christians; they turned the graves of their prophets into places of worship.” ʿĀʾisha added, “He was warning against doing what they had done.” (2)

Muslim likewise transmits it through Yazid b. al-Asam from him.
It is also found in Abd al-Razzaq’s Musannaf (1/406/1589) through the first chain, but he records it as mawquf (stopping at the Companion).
(1) A garment of khazz or striped wool—so states al-Nihaya. I say: what is meant here is the latter, for khazz now denotes silk, and silk is forbidden for men according to the sunnah, contrary to those who permit it because they give no weight to the Prophetic tradition.
(2) Reported by al-Bukhari (1/422; 6/386; 8/116), Muslim (2/67), Abu Awana (1/399), al-Nasa’i (1/115), al-Darimi (1/326), Ahmad (1/218; 6/342; 229; 275), and Ibn Saad in al-Tabaqat (2/258). Abd al-Razzaq also narrates it in the Musannaf (1/406/1588) solely from Ibn Abbas.
