These hadiths are decisive evidence that shirk (polytheism) will indeed appear within this ummah. Since that is the case, Muslims must steer clear of every avenue and means that could lead any one of them to shirk—such as erecting mosques over graves and the like, matters already discussed and expressly forbidden by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who warned his community against them.

Let no one be deluded by modern culture; it guides no one who is astray, and—except as Allah wills—it does not add to a believer’s guidance. Guidance and light are found only in what the Messenger ﷺ brought. Allah the Exalted has spoken the truth: “There has certainly come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. By it Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the ways of peace, brings them out of darkness into light by His permission, and directs them to a straight path.” (1)
