3 – “The Hour will not come until tribes from my community align themselves with the polytheists, and until tribes from my community worship idols.” (1)
4 – “The Hour will not come until no one on earth says, ‘Allah, Allah,’—and in another wording: ‘There is no god but Allah.’” (2)
= (4/549), where he treated it as a supplement to Muslim’s collection, but he was mistaken.
(1) Reported by Abu Dawud (2/202); al-Tirmidhi (3/227), who declared it sound; al-Hakim (4/448–449); al-Tayalisi (no. 991); Ahmad (5/284); and al-Harbi in al-Gharib (5/167/1), all through the chain of Thawban with a prophetic attribution. Al-Hakim said, “Sound according to the criteria of the two shaykhs,” and al-Dhahabi concurred; in reality it only fulfils Muslim’s criteria, and the original version of the hadith is included in Muslim’s Sahih (8/171). It also has a corroborating transmission from Abu Hurayra recorded by al-Tayalisi (2501).
(2) Reported by Muslim (1/91); al-Tirmidhi (3/224), who graded it fair; al-Hakim (4/494–495); Ahmad (3/107, 259, 268); Ibn Mundah in Kitab al-Tawhid (1/49); and Yusuf b. Umar al-Qawwas in his Hadith (1/68). The second wording is that of Ahmad and al-Hakim, who judged it “sound according to Muslim’s criteria,” which is correct. Al-Hakim also recorded a corroborating report from Ibn Masud, declaring it sound on the criteria of the two shaykhs, and al-Dhahabi agreed.
